Q - I'm new to walking/hiking. What happens if I can't keep up?
A - Our walk leaders plan our walks with all abilities in mind. Sometimes we can include a short walk within the main walk for those who may only want to walk a mile or 2 rather than 5 or 6.
Q - Does it cost much to join?
A - There is a nominal fee that helps cover insurance for the club. The most recent annual fee was £6.00.
Q - Where do you walk?
A - Most of our walks are in the West Midlands and will depend on who the walk leader is for that walk. We appreciate that many people will not want to drive far on a Sunday. Also, around the West Midlands (including Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Staffordshire) there are loads of entertaining walks to keep us engaged!
Q - Do you do any other social activities?
A - We hold an annual beer and skittles evening around November. We have also held a yearly quiz evening in years gone which, we are looking to start again. Additionally, once a year we have a coach walk. We are collected by coach from Bournville and taken further afield. This is always the highlight of the walking club’s year. Every December, the club has a Christmas meal. There may be additional costs tied to events.
Q - Do you walk in all weathers?
A - While we love a good walk, safety is our number one prioriety. If the weather is looking too dangerous to hold a walk, it will be rescheduled.
Q - Can I bring my dog?
A - Unless we are walking on a route or on land that does not permit dogs then yes. However, you will be responsible for your dog and be expected to keep your dog on a lead where necessary.
Q - What should I wear?
A - Sensible well-fitting walking shoes or boots are a must. Remember to dress for the weather. It's always sensible to carry a drink and some snacks to keep you going and good practice to have your phone with you in case of any emergencies.
